If I had one hope at the moment it would've been to have married a plumber, preferably a 24 hour one. I phoned countless plumbers, hoping anybody could come over to halt the 3:30 AM deluge rising to my knees. The water was coming up as my options lowered. This is a nightmare situation for me. I have exactly zero home maintenance skills. Luckily, I discovered a likely choice. The advertisement said "24 hour plumbing". I quickly called and a real, live person picked up. Within the hour a plumber was at my house. He quickly fixed the the broken pipe. But the help didn't stop there. The company is a larger, local business that could help with nearly any home maintenance issue. There was a long list of services I needed, and now I knew the business was a dependable one, I finally felt comfortable getting to them. The fact that it could all be done by one business made it so much easier. First I wanted to have all the HVAC work finished. This included AC and furnace repair. Then I paid for an electrician to get a few broken power outlets working again. Lastly, I was so delighted with the previous plumber, I called him back to do some drain cleaning.
